Just because you do what is "right" does not mean for certain others will think that you have done anything at all.
What does this statement mean? Does it mean that we should do what is right anyway, like Mother Teresa said? Does it mean not to try at all so that others give up hope? If we do good and it goes unrecognized, isn't that the highest form of service to God?
Vow not to waste energy on that which we cannot control. What we can control is what we do and our intentions behind every action. In other words, it is what we do that matters and the essence of being driving the actions. Jealousy, greed, power and pride can only lead to trouble, if not with others but ourselves in the long run.
Here is one of my favorite writings by Mother Teresa:
People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.
